Inhibition of the Argon-Sensitized Radiolysis of Propane by Hydrogen

Abstract
Argon sensitizes the radiolysis of propane, presumably by dissociative charge transfer. Hydrogen interferes with the sensitization reaction by serving as a scavenger for Ar+ according to the reaction Ar++H2→ArH++H. Sensitization and self‐inhibition by hydrogen are also considered, and approximate values of the sensitization rate constants are derived from a study of the inhibition processes.Keywords
