Mechanical strength of fusion-spliced optical fibres

Abstract

Mechanical strengths of optical fibres heated under different electric-discharge conditions have been systematically examined. Exclusion of fibre surface contaminations and making heating duration as short as possible are important for prevention of strength deterioration.
