Abstract
A comparison is made between the management of human and animal wounds. Wounds should be classified in order to aid the selection of the most appropriate form of treatment. The concept of the 'golden period' is now less accepted and effective early surgical treatment is advocated. The application of newer dressing materials is recommended together with the initial results of a pilot study based on the application of these materials to animal wounds. An enthusiasm was demonstrated in this study and the need for further research has been identified. Keywords
