Abstract
Using a potential-model approximation to quantum chromodynamics and the masses of ground-state mesons and baryons as input, we obtain lower bounds on the constituent-quark mass differences. We find mdmu>4.1±0.3 MeV, msm¯>184±4 MeV, mcms>1180±4 MeV, and mbmc>3343±4 MeV, where m¯ is the average mass of the u and d quarks.
