Abstract
Osmotical-ly shocked T2 virus of Escherichia coli B having less than 1% of its original infectivity will still adsorb onto the host cells, prevent their multiplication and even lyse them. Fractionation of solns. of shocked virus by ultracentrifugation followed by electron microscopic examination indicated that the lytic factor is associated with the "ghosts" (deflated head and tail) of the virus. The "ghosts" contain little or no P. A few other properties are described.
