Abstract
Palynological studies of radiocarbon dated cores collected from the Hula Lake and the Mediterranean offshore, and of samples collected from some archaeological sites in Israel seem to indicate that the vegetation and climate fluctuated during the last 6000 years. Two periods have been discerned in which the climate was apparently more humid than presently, the vegetation belts moved southwards and the share of olives in the natural maquis increased : until about 2400 B.C. and from 2100 until 1100 В. С. Dry phases have been recorded around 2250 and 950 В. С.
