Error correction method for R-DAT and its evaluation

Abstract
Decoding method of error correcting codes used in R-DAT has been examined. High ability for both error correction and detection is required in digital audio systems, because undetected error causes a shock noise in the reproduced sound. It is also required to correct a long burst error due to dropouts in the magnetic tape. A model of error occurrence in R-DAT was proposed with suitable parameters characterizing the data transmission property. Based on the model, a simulation for error correction procedure was carried out to evaluate the ability of the error correction method. As a result, a powerful decoding algorithm suitable for R-DAT has been developed.
