Abstract
Several common species of North American Trichogramma have been misidentified in the literature due to inattention to existing type material and the failure to designate neotypes where needed. To help clarify matters, neotypes of T. minutum Riley and T. pretiosum Riley, from the type localities, are designated. Examination of existing types of T. retorridum (Girault), T. semifumatum (Perkins), and T. fasciatum (Perkins) revealed that these names have been consistently misapplied. Populations formerly known as T. retorridum and T. fasciatum are consequently described as new (T. brevicapillum and T. exiguum, respectively). T. semifumatum apparently does not occur in North America and populations often named as such are now treated as T. pretiosum. In addition, T. beckeri Nagarkatti, a recently described species from Costa Rica, is synonymized with T. fasciatum, and lectotypes of T. semifumatum, T. fasciatum, and T. euproctidis (Girault) are designated. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
