Abstract
Summary: The presence of an intravaginal sponge impregnated with the fluoro‐progestagen is responsible for an alteration in the bacterial flora of cervical mucus of the ewe at the first oestrus following withdrawal. There is an increase in the number of coliform organisms, specifically E. coli, Alcaligenes spp and other Gram negative bacteria, and C. pyogenes, probably through contamination of the string by facees and urine and the actual presence of an intravaginal foreign body.
