Abstract
A system is proposed for describing soil mottlings in terms of contraste, number, size, and color in ordinary field notes. It is further suggested that boundaries and the shape or form of mottles be descr. in detailed morph. studies. Terms for characterizing mottled patterns are proposed, together with tentative definitions of those terms. Contrast can be described as faint, distinct, or prominent; number as few, common, or many; size as fine, medium or coarse; and color in the standard, terminology related to the Munsell system. Specimen descriptions of individual horizons from a number of soils are included to illustrate possible use of the proposed terminology. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
