Abstract
A study of the plasma levels of radioiodine in 11 cases of myxedema, 5 cases of hyperthyroidism and 9 euthyroid cases after ingestion of 100 micro-curies of I131 was made. Curves were constructed from data obtained from plasma drawn 0.5, 1, 3, 6, 24, and 48 hrs. after ingestion of the radioiodine. No significant difference was noted at these time intervals between hyperthyroid and euthyroid individuals. However, myxedema patients had plasma curves significantly different from non-myxedema patients. The hypothyroid group had a later, lower peak level and a slower rate of disappearance of iodine from the plasma in the time studied. Keywords
