Abstract
The cephalosporins BL-S786 and HR-756, the cefamycins A, B, C, CS-1170 and Sq-14359 and thienamycin, all with relative resistance to β-lactamases, were tested for antibacterial activity on eleven cefoxitin-resistant (MIC >16 mg/1) strains of the Bacteroides fragilis group. Cefamycin C inhibited the majority of the strains at 4 to 16 mg/1. All strains were resistant to the other β-lactams tested (MIC gt;16 mg/1). The new cephalosporins were not active (MIC 32 to > 128 mg/1) on 15 cefoxitin-susceptible strains of B. fragilis, whereas the cefamycins were active (MIC <4 to 16 mg/1) as was also thienamycin (MIC 0.25 to 2 mg/1). Resistance to the cefamycins could not be correlated to production of β-lactamase.This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
