Abstract
Studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of daily injections of ovine GH in fed sheep on plasma levels of NEFA, glucose, insulin, PUN and FAA-N. The effects of treatment on nitrogen balance were also observed. It was noted that GH treatment resuited in increased levels of plasma NEFA, glucose and insulin and a decrease in PUN. No detectable effect was noted on plasma FAA-N. Nitrogen-retention was almost doubled during GH treatment. These effects of GH treatment are in agreement with results reported by others in both ruminant and nonruminant species. Copyright © 1970. American Society of Animal Science.
