Abstract
This content analysis shows the number of international news items in the New York Times has decreased over the last 22 years. Roughly one in five items contained second-hand or borrowed news (material first disseminated by and attributed to another news organization), though trend analysis indicates increasing news borrowing. Borrowed news was most common in items from Second World (Communist) nations, but the proportion has dropped significantly during the ′80s. Third World borrowed news continues to increase significantly. Keywords
