Abstract
Anatheca dentata is one of two species in this relatively unknown genus. The type species of the genus, A. montagnei, was shown to have carpogonial branches similar to genera in the Solieriaceae. Studies on the male and female reproductive systems of A. dentata, however, reveal that it cannot be placed in Anatheca, its reproduction being similar to species placed in the Sarcodiaceae and the transfer of A. dentata to Sarcodia is proposed. Data indicate that the Sarcodiaceae and Dicranemaceae have characters so much in common that it is recommended that the families be combined into one, the Sarcodiaceae.
