Abstract
During in vitro incubation the mitochondria of immature reticulocytes fail to be degraded by lipoxygenase and subsequent ATP‐dependent proteolysis. Susceptibility is conferred on the mitochondria by a protein, the ‘mitochondria susceptibility factor’ which is synthesized during maturation of the reticulocytes in an iron‐containing medium. Keywords
