In Vitro Growth and Sporulation of Blastomyces dermatitidis on Woody Plant Material

Abstract
The growth and sporulation of the human pathogen, B. dermatitidis, on wood from Juniperus virginiana, Pinus virginiana, Liquidambar styraciflua and Platanus occidentalis was studied. Addition of soil extract enhanced growth on wood in 5 of 8 cases. Results justify consideration of woody plant material as a sample source and natural reservoir of the pathogen in field isolation attempts.
