Abstract
Renal water and Na outputs and endogenous creatinine clearance are greater while lying than while standing. In 5 of 18 observations the posturally induced change in creatinine clearance failed to occur in the first 15 min. although it occurred subsequently. With 4 of these 5 lags in creatinine clearance change there was a corresponding lag in Na excretion change. The results are consistent with the view that posturally induced acute changes in filtration rate are accompanied by considerably greater acute changes in Na and water outputs. Neck compression while sitting had no effect on endogenous creatinine clearance or on water or Na outputs.
