(Continued)Other grafts. Attempts to utilize other materials for prostheses have not been too encouraging. These include fascial-tube grafts,38,39 tubes of stainless-steel wire mesh42 and chamois.41 Experiments with these were not encouraging; furthermore, most of them were used as replacements of short segments of the abdominal aorta in dogs and therefore did not produce comparable conditions for the longer replacements that are necessary in the human being, especially for long segments to bypass the femoral-artery occlusive disease.
