Charting the Grey Economy in the 1990s

Abstract
The paper reviews evidence on the main changes which have affected elderly households in the 1980s and presents an assessment of likely trends in the 1990s. Changes in income, wealth, employment and housing are assessed to contribute to an integrated approach. The evidence suggests that demographic and other changes are likely to increase the variability of income and resources in the 1990s. This has implications for the role of state and private sectors in contributing to the welfare of elderly persons in the next decade.
