Abstract
The Prime Minister, Mr David Lange has staked his political career on restructuring education. In this he has drawn battlelines with the teacher unions and given the thumbs down to pressure groups intent on prolonging what Mr Lange believes is the ‘endless process of consultation’ in New Zealand education. As the first New Zealand prime minister set on holding the education portfolio for a whole parliamentary term, Mr Lange is determined to reassert the role of Minister of Education.
