Abstract
The biology of C. koehleri is traced from the ovarian egg to the adult stage. It is suggested that polyembryony results from the change in cyto-plasmic-nuclear balance w,hen, during maturation, a polar region is formed from half the egg cytoplasm. Quantitative studies indicate a sexual differential in amt. of polyembryonic division. This is explained by the influence of sperm nuclear material in fertilized eggs, and this hypothesis is strengthened by radiation expts. in which androgenetic development was obtained. Origin of mixed broods is explained by superparasitism. The quantitative studies on polyembryony are submitted as a new approach to this field of biology.
