Using Templates in the Thematic Analysis of Text

Abstract
The term ‘template analysis’ does not describe a single, clearly delineated method; it refers rather to a varied but related group of techniques for thematically organizing and analysing textual data. The essence of template analysis is that the researcher produces a list of codes (‘template’) representing themes identified in their textual data. Some of these will usually be defined a priori, but they will be modified and added to as the researcher reads and interprets the texts.
