Abstract
Lymphatic by-passes can explain the non-in-volvement of individual lymph nodes or lymph stations. Lymph nodes are inserted in a lymph system as obligatory filters, they can, however, be side-tracked. According to this point of view, the relation between a lymph node and its vessel system can be classified into 4 major types, between which all transitory types appear to occur. The nature, frequency and distribution of lymphatic by-passes have not been sufficiently examined; they can, however, like retrograde lymphogenous malignant metastasis and the existence of two-way lymph vessels help to explain an atypical distribution of lymphogenous metastasis.
