New Tests to Assess Lung Function

Abstract
ALTHOUGH a good number of lung-function tests are now performed routinely in most hospitals, the clinical assessment of abnormalities in the regulation of respiration is in general limited to measurements of arterial carbon dioxide and oxygen tension. The last fyears however, have seen an explosion of interest in regulation of breathing, with a welcome clinical orientation to the subject. Indeed, clinically applicable, simple and rapid methods for measuring the ventilatory response to carbon dioxide and hypoxia have recently been described.Measurement of Ventilatory Response to Carbon Dioxide by RebreathingIn 1966, Read1 developed a rebreathing technic for measuring the ventilatory . . .
