THE GASTROINTESTINAL ABSORPTION OF UNALTERED PROTEIN IN NORMAL INFANTS AND IN INFANTS RECOVERING FROM DIARRHEA

Abstract
The serum concentration of egg albumin after the oral administration of 1 gm./kg. of purified egg albumin was determined by means of a quantitative immunochemical technique in 21 infants recovering from diarrhea and in 19 control subjects of the same age. In the patients with diarrhea the concentrations were significantly greater than in the controls. The use of hypoallergenic food in the recovery phase of diarrhea is recommended.
