Abstract
The orientation, asymmetry and strength of the electric field gradient tensor at tantalum sites in 2H-TaSe2, determined between 10 and 295K, suggest metal three-centre bond formation in the charge-density-wave (CDW) states. The incommensurate CDW state is described by a model of variable three-centre bond strength. Furthermore the authors present evidence for a new phase transition at about 50K.
