Abstract
DDT in kerosene applied to stable walls obviated the need for further sprays to control the stablefly, Stomoxys calcitrans, on horses but did not appear to reduce the fly population outside; applied to a window screen and on a stall, it killed flies for 12-13 days. Indalone, except for cost, was the most satisfactory solvent tested as a carrier for DDT. DDT in indalone, 2 gms. per 100 ml., as a spray on horses gave a 100% kill of flies, 1 hr. of complete protection, 2-4 hrs. of partial satisfactory protection, and a residual deposit that remained toxic for a few days. DDT did not act as a fly repellent.
