Abstract
It is shown by a consideration of colour patterns, of mouth markings of nestlings, and of life habits that the Australian genus Neochmia Gray 1849, is more closely related to Lagonostica Cabanis 1851, than to other species with which it has been linked. Neochmia also shows some relationship to Amandava amandava (Linnaeus).Keywords
