Abstract
A "closed" technique for the accurate measurement of the myocardial blood flow is still to be achieved. This study presents the results obtained using a radioactive (RISA) indicator dilution technique both in a model system and in the dog. The successful application of such a system depends upon the ade-quate separation of the dilution curves obtained from the coronary and non-coronary circuits. In the model system good separation between the curves from the coronary and non-coronary circulations was obtained. However, in the dog with catheterization of the pulmonary and femoral arteries and superior vena cava, it was not possible to obtain significant separation between the coronary and non-coronary dilution curves. It is felt that, in the dog, the circulation times through these circuits do not differ sufficiently to make it possible to assess myocardial blood flow by this technique. Keywords
