Abstract
The plastic deformation of type II diamond plates has been examined by three-point loading at temperatures between 1700 and 1550°c. Plastic bending was produced at 1700°c but the degree of bending at a particular stress was less than with experiments at 1800°c which have been reported. No plastic deformation was detected at 1600°c and at lower temperatures. It is suggested that the transition from brittle to ductile behaviour for type II diamonds in bend experiments occurs within the temperature range of 1400 to 1600°c.Keywords
