Abstract
Examination of 9061 weasel skins at a Manitoba fur warehouse revealed that pelts from the 3 spp., Mustela frenata M. erminea and M. rixosa could be readily distinguished although the usual black was occasionally absent from the tails of all 3 spp. Only 1.7% of the skins were found to be from M. rixosa. Sex of the pelts was readily detd. by the presence of the preputial orifice[long dash]a technic applicable to all mustelids. Fur grades were found to reveal actual sex and species composition of the harvest with sufficient accuracy to detect sex ratio shifts of 10% in wild populations. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
