Abstract
Total plasma protein concentration and the partition of serum protein components was studied in normal rats and in the anemic and polycythemic members of pairs with parabiosis intoxication. Regardless of the hematologic status, rats with parabiosis intoxication showed depressed serum albumin and elevated [alpha]2 globulin values. Anemic partners showed a diminution of plasma protein concentration which averaged about 50%, whereas their polycythemic twins showed a comparable augmentation. Findings are construed as indicative of the hemodynamic nature of parabiosis intoxication, and of significance in the symptomatology which characterizes it.Keywords
