Abstract
The 2+ inelastic scattering of 4.5 GeV/c pions on 12C has been calculated within the framework of the Glauber multiple scattering theory. Using the ground-state density for 12C as obtained from recent electron-scattering experiments and the 2+ inelastic form factor, which is consistent with both the electron and high-energy proton scattering data, it is shown that the discrepancy between the calculated and the experimental cross sections at the maximum is much less than that reported in some recent calculations.
