A NOTE ON THE SPIROCHAETES OF TERMITES

Abstract
Ten species, representing 3 of the 5 families of termites, have been examined by dark-field and stained preparations; 6 of the species were of North American and 4 of tropical origin and all were found to contain abundant spirochaetes in the gut. From their morphology, the spirochaetes appear to belong to different species. It would seem therefore, that Spirochaeta termitis Leidy, which has been previously described, represents but 1 of the spirochaetes commonly present in the gut of termites.
