Insecticidal Activity of Some Alkoxy Analogs of DDT

Abstract
Sprays of 2.2-bis(p-alkoxyphenyl-l,l,l-trichloroethanes, synthesized by the general method and dissolved in Deo-Base (a refined petroleum oil), were compared with DDT sprays upon houseflies. 0.25 gm. per 100 ml. of DDT caused slow knockdown; 0.4 gm. per 100 ml. of the methoxy analog gave a good kill; 0.2 gm. per 100 ml. of the ethoxy analog gave a good kill with a knockdown better than that of DDT but not as good as that from the methoxy analog; n-proxy and n-butoxy analogs showed little or no toxicity toward flies. DDT, methoxy and ethoxy analogs were equally effective against larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus; the n-butoxy analog gave a negligible kill. DDT caused tremors and death in 4 rats.
