Abstract
The fluorescence spectra and fluorescence yields were measured as a function of solute concentrations for uv excitation of 2‐phenyl indole and some derivatives of 2‐phenyl indole. Correlations between structure and self‐quenching were similar to the correlations obtained with fast‐electron excitation. The formation of excimers was demonstrated as the concentration of certain derivatives of 2‐phenyl indole was increased. A common pathway of excimer formation and self‐quenching was indicated from the results.
