Abstract
The sexual development of 51 female schizophrenics, their attitudes toward sex, and their sexual activity and arousability were investigated. The control group consisted of 101 gynecological patients. The sexual development of the female schizophrenics was significantly retarded, and their sexual activity and arousability significantly lowered in adult life compared with the control group. The hypothesis is advanced that the retarded development may be caused by some biological factor, while sexuality in adult life is negatively affected primarily by social isolation. Keywords
