Poliomyelitis in relation to intramuscular injections of quinine and other drugs

Abstract
Case studies indicate the danger of giving intramusc. injns. of quinine and other irritant solns. to children, both in tropical and temporate climates, since such trauma may alter the conditions of the neurones and make them suitable sites for localized proliferation of the poliomyelitis viruses frequently present in the system, and thus cause a pralysis to develop that otherwise might not have appeared before immunity and protection were attained.
