Abstract
Three different types of entrance-channel data are described by the optical model; differential cross sections, total non-elastic reaction cross sections and spin polarisations. The model of McCarthy et al. (1977) fits its one free parameter, the absorption strength, to the reaction cross section. Differential cross sections are well described, but spin polarisations calculated for xenon compare badly with early experiments. They give good agreement with the recent experiment of Kessler et al. (1977).Keywords
