FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATION OF TEMPORAL LOBE OF MONKEY (MACACA MULATTA) AND CHIMPANZEE (PAN SATYRUS)

Abstract
By the method of physiological neuronography, the temporal lobes of macaque and chimpanzee were investigated. Both animals show the same functional organization, viz., "acoustic sector" and "temporal sector." The acoustic sector can be divided into the primary acoustic area (Brodmann''s 41), a small area (Brodmann''s 42) surrounding it, and an area on the first temporal gyrus (at least part of Brodmann''s area 22). The auditosensory area (41) shows a tonotopic organization. The deep tones are located in the anterolateral, the high tones in the posteromedial parts. The 3 areas of the acoustic sector mutually spike one another. The temporal sector comprises Brodmann''s areas 21, 20 and 38, which are arranged in the manner shown by Brodmann for the human brain. Each area only fires itself locally. Commissural connections within the temporal sector are restricted to area 21 and take their course probably through the anterior commissure.This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
