Prognosis in epilepsy of late onset

Abstract
Of 904 patients admitted with epilepsy during 1948 to 1957, 59 had onset of seizures after age 45. At follow-up 4 to 14 years after admission, 19 had died. Of the remaining 40, 35 had no or only rare seizures, a finding which confirms the impression of a favorable prognosis in epilepsy of late onset, unless it is caused by an intracranial tumor.
