Abstract
We calculate photoproduction and pionic decay of the Roper resonance using a chiral bag model based on an effective Lagrangian that reproduces correct pion-nucleon phenomenology through third order in the pionic field. This effective Lagrangian leads to pion-quark couplings throughout the bag volume and its use here yields agreement with the experimentally measured values when the bag radius is taken around 0.8 fm, while other Lagrangians based on pion-quark coupling at the surface of the bag only are less successful.
