Celery Mosaic Control in Florida by Eradication of the Wild Host Commelina nudiflora

Abstract

Laboratory and greenhouse studies showed that C. nudiflora is probably the only important wild host of this virus, and Aphis gossypii the only important insect carrier. Eradication of this weed around 2 celery fields reduced losses from mosaic to 1-1 1/2%; in a control field, without removal of the weed, an almost total loss of crop occurred.
