Abstract
Recently, Little suggested that certain organic materials could act as superconductors at temperatures much higher than the conventional inorganic superconductors. In view of the complicated nature of the proposed compounds it was felt that this idea could only be tested directly if a simpler system could be found. For that purpose a number of TCNQ derivatives of cyanine dyes were prepared and their electrical conductivities were measured in a simple way. It turned out that their conductivities (2.5 × 10−3 to 8 × 10−11 ω−1cm−1) are comparable to those of other TCNQ derivatives. There were no indications of an enhanced conductivity due to the presence of the highly polarizable cyanine cations. Keywords
