Abstract
Measurements on the emission of the mercury resonance line at 253.7 nm from active nitrogen containing measured amounts of mercury vapour confirm that Hg(63P1) is excited predominantly by N2(A3Σ+ u) which is formed in approximately half the three body recombinations of ground state nitrogen atoms with M = N2 or Ar. Rate coefficients are given for some processes removing N2(A).Keywords
