Abstract
We report the results of an experimental study of the electrical conductivity and the mass density of expanded liquid mercury and of a dilute 3% at. Hg/In alloy in the temperature range 30°-1520°C, and the pressure range 1–1600 atm. Large excess volumes and large differences in the electrical conductivity were observed for the alloy relative to pure mercury at constant temperature and pressure. The normalized electrical conductivity of both systems, each relative to the corresponding room temperature value, in the density range 13·6–10·0 gcm−3 is determined by the fluid density.
