Abstract
The equations of motion are derived for an object falling under the influence of gravity and aerodynamic drag. These equations are used to examine the response of the ARCAS parachute to hypothetical wind profiles in the region extending from 30 to 80 km. A computational scheme for determining the horizontal wind from the observed motion of any wind sensor influenced only by the above forces is presented, along with an example of its application to an ARCAS parachute flight. Keywords
