A CASE OF CAMPTOCORMIA OCCURRING IN PSYCHOTHERAPY

Abstract
Although camptocormia (the functional bent back syndrome) has been known to be a functional symptom since its first description in 1837, there has been little opportunity to study the psychodynamics of this symptom. The development of this symptom in a patient who had been in psychotherapy for 3.5 yr is described, and the meaning of the symptom for this patient is explored. Suggestions as to proper therapeutic management of patients with this symptom are made.
