Abstract
Atlanta—The nation's leading agency targeting the control of infectious diseases is adopting a modus operandi not unlike that of famed bank robber Willie Sutton. Once asked why he robbed banks, Sutton replied, "Because that's where the money is." Because hospitals are where the germs often are—particularly antibiotic-resistant ones—health experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reasoned that hospitals and other health care facilities should be the focus of a new campaign. Its aim: to curb the problem of antimicrobial-resistant infections in patients being cared for in such settings.
